Rudge 'new pattern' cross frame 1888

This Rudge safety bicycle is to be seen in the Velorama museum. The museum tells us it was built in 1888 and is called the 'New Pattern' safety bicycle.
It really is a rare and early model with a lot of special details! Serial number is 1317.
Typical Rudge are the enforced cross frame and the seat post. When I compare it to a later model (pictures here), there are a lot of differences. It shows another type of handlebars and chain tensioning at the bracket. Look at the chain running outside the frame, the magnificent front suspension system and other details!
